Hello! My name is Hong Tien Vu. I am an Associate Professor and Director of the Center for Environmental Journalism at the Department of Journalism, College of Communication, Media, Design and Information, University of Colorado Boulder, starting from Fall 2025.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in Linguistics from Vietnam National University in Hanoi, a master’s degree in Journalism and Mass communications from The University of Kansas, awarded through a Fulbright Scholarship, and a doctoral degree in Journalism from The University of Texas at Austin.
I joined The University of Kansas as a faculty member following the completion of my doctoral studies in 2015. I was the Clyde & Betty Reed Professor of Journalism at the William Allen White School of Journalism & Mass Communications. In 2023, I served as a visiting fellow at Yale Program on Climate Change Communication, Yale School of The Environment, Yale University.
Prior to entering academia, I spent 15 years working in journalism and public relations. As a journalist, I reported for several news organizations including the Associated Press in Hanoi. Additionally, I worked as a public relations professional for both non-profit organizations and for-profit businesses.
