Hello! I am an associate professor at the William Allen White School of Journalism & Mass Communications, University of Kansas.

Before academia, I worked for nearly 15 years in both journalism and public relations. My journalism experience includes working for traditional and online news organizations as well a news agency like the Associated Press. I have also worked as a public relations professional for both for-profit and non-profit organizations.

I went back to graduate school in 2009 on a Fulbright Scholarship to do my master’s in journalism and mass communication at the University of Kansas. Falling in love with research I moved to the University of Texas at Austin in 2011 to pursue doctoral studies in journalism. I moved back to Vietnam in 2013 where I worked for Oxfam in Vietnam as the organization’s Information and Communication Manager while doing my PhD remotely. During the two years between 2013 and 2015, I also worked as a lecturer for the Communications Department, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT). I returned to the United States in 2015 to join the William Allen White School of Journalism & Mass Communications, University of Kansas.

In this site you will find my selected journalism works and a list of my published research papers. If you have any questions or you cannot find a paper listed here, you are more than welcome to email me at: hong.act@gmail.com.
